Valentino x Goop

Today I have news of a REALLY COOL collaboration - Valentino and Gwyneth Paltrow's website, GOOP. Inspired by Wonder Woman, the collection includes 25 extremely limited pieces (and quite pricey) which are all adorned with stars. Paltrow said of the collection to the New York Times, “To me, it’s a fantastic and resonant idea because everybody is working, having kids, trying not to miss a soccer game while at the same time being on a conference call. The modern woman is a wonder woman.”

The collection will be sold at the Goop pop up store in New York City. Luckily for us fashionistas living in the UAE who don't want to miss out on the action, Goop.com is selling a few items but hurry because the collection is selling fast!

Here are a few of my favourite picks

I'm beyond OBSESSED with this dress!!

Be Safe with UBER this Valentine's Day

This Valentine's Day I have teamed up with UBER to provide you a cooler and safer way to get to and from your romance destinations.

UBER is a company that provides chauffeur driven cars (usually a BMW or other luxury car) that can take you anywhere you like. All you need to do is download the app onto your Iphone (UBER), put in your personal details and credit card number and their drivers will locate you using their GPS. I have used the service before and it is very safe, reliable and gets you to your destination on time.  The cars are super clean and the drivers understand English so you won't waste time trying to explain your drop off destination. The BEST thing is that your credit card gets automatically charged upon arrival so there is no need to carry lots of unnecessary cash.

For this Valentine's Day, UBER and My Small Obsessions are giving you DHS 80 off your first trip. Just enter the promo code 9qclb on the app.

Better yet, snap some pics in the car, tag them on Twitter and Instagram with #UberLoveAD and the pic with the most likes will win a surprise at the end of the week.

Remember to use the promo code 9qclb to get dhs 80 off!
Don't risk drinking and driving- just use UBER.
I hope you have a FABULOUS Valentine's Day :)

Back to blogging!

To all my readers and followers, I would first like to apologize for not posting anything in over a month. I honestly used to think that not enough people were reading my words but ever since I stopped writing, I have gotten so many emails, comments and complaints that fans are logging on and are disappointed not to find anything. I guess I was wrong about my the amount of readership I actually have! Oops!

The biggest surprise was when I found out I was pregnant in October. I thought I could be one of those women who could be fit and healthy in their pregnancies, look great and 'glow' for 9 months. Unfortunately, a week after my test came out positive I found out that I had a complication which required a whole month of bed rest. Added to that, I started having morning sickness ALL DAY and needed two overnight stays at the hospital due to severe dehydration. I lost 6 kgs in two months and I was absolutely MISERABLE!

When you feel like crap and can't get out of bed, it's difficult to get excited about anything!!!

One of my overnight hospital stays hooked up to an IV drip for TEN hours!

Added to that, my 7 year old niece was diagnosed with Leukaemia. Unfortunately, ALSO in October! My sister had to relocate her whole family to London in a span of two days so her daughter could start her treatment. Luckily, things are progressing well now. When you have been served with such a hard blow of reality, topics like fashion and beauty seem so mundane and ridiculous to be focused on.

I am currently 6 months pregnant, getting bigger by the second and have finally gotten my 'glow'. Now that I feel so much better, I feel like something is missing from my daily life. I used to spend so much time blogging and going to events that now I feel a void.  I actually love to blog and reading your comments and feedback used to encourage me to keep going. I learned that Fashion and beauty are great topics to write about - as long as they remain hobbies and not be the ONLY thing that matters. A Chanel bag can be a great accessory, a joy to own even, but when you have your head in a toilet seat all day- the LAST thing you think about is that bag. Trust me :)

I am going to try my best to start writing more and get back into the swing of things from now on.

Thanks for all your support and loyalty to my blog - it makes it all worth while :)

My ESPRIT Story

Last week I was asked to join a very fun project with four other fashion bloggers in the U.A.E. We went to the Esprit flagship store in Dubai Mall, picked out our favourite outfits and were photographed in them. While shopping, a video was also shot of us with a little blurb about our personal style.

I must admit that ESPRIT isn't one of the stores that I frequently visit and I was quite surprised by what I found in the store. There is something to suit everyone's style and it was super difficult to choose JUST one outfit. In fact, if you notice from all of the blogger's outfit choices - everyone is dressed COMPLETELY differently based on their personal style.

I am four months pregnant and I shopped based on finding something comfortable that would take me through my nine months in style. The leggings that I am wearing in the shoot were SO comfortable that I took them home and wore them for the whole week! I'm seriously considering stocking up on a few more pairs :)

Outfit Details: Knit Sweater, Starred top, tank top, leggings, Bag & Sunglasses - All ESPRIT

The other bloggers Esprit Stories all wearing ESPRIT

I highly recommend you visit an ESPRIT store - you are guaranteed to find something you love! :)

Amanda Navai Bags to benefit hunger in Syria

Sometimes Fashion designers design collections for great causes that make you feel good about owning them! Amanda Navai, the pioneer of genuine python bags, is the latest of those designers.

She has recently joined forces with the World Food Program to bring us four limited edition handbags that are sure to make a bold statement. Only 16 of these exclusive handbags will be sold with each style in red, purple, metallic navy and metallic blue. The styles were named after four of Dubai's most fashion savvy career women who provided the inspiration for the designs:

The Louise Bag named after Harper's Bazaar Editor in Chief Louise Nichol

The Diala Bag named after TV Presenter Diala Makki

The Rosemin Bag named after Fashion Consultant Rosemin Manji

The Alanoud Bag after Blogger and designer Alanoud Bader (aka Lady Fozaza)

Not only are these bags truly arm candy and very covetable but all profits will go towards feeding malnourished children in Syria. The sale of these 16 bags will allow 20,000 people to be fed through the World Food Program. I'd say that's a VERY worthy cause!

These exclusive bags will be sold at Bloomingdales, Dubai Mall starting December 8th.
Call 04-350 5333 to pre-order your bag
There are ONLY 16 bags so hurry!

Healthy Chicken Lettuce Wraps

I have always loved Asian Chicken Lettuce wraps at restaurants but hate how fatty they actually are. (The peanut sauce by the way is LOADED with fat and calories!) Last night, I decided to make my own home-made version. After looking up many different recipes online, I made these to be low carb,  low fat, high in protein, and easy to make. The end result was PURE YUMM!

These are great as an appetizer or a main dish with boiled corn on the side.

Here is my step-by-step recipe:
Preparation Time: 45 mins - Yield: 6 large wraps

WHAT YOU NEED FOR THE WRAPS:
- 500g Lean Minced Chicken
- 1/2 cup Quinoa
- 2 scallions (green onions)
- 2 carrots
- 3/4 red pepper
- 3/4 yellow pepper
- 1/2 packet enoki mushrooms
- 1 large iceberg lettuce
- 1 tablespoon minced ginger (or fresh ginger paste)
- 1/4 cup reduced sodium soy sauce
- 2 1/2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
- 2 teaspoons sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon water

WHAT YOU NEED FOR THE  SAUCE:
- 1/4 Cup Reduced Sodium Soy Sauce
- 2 Tablespoons Rice Vinegar
- 1 Tablespoon sugar (you can also use Splenda)
- 1/2 Tablespoon Ginger
- 1 Teaspoon Sesame Oil
- 1/2 Teaspoon Garlic

What To Do:

STEP 1: Shred the carrots, thinly slice the yellow and red peppers, & green onions. Trim the bottoms of the enoki mushrooms and rinse them under water.

STEP 2: Wash the lettuce leaves well and leave them to dry on kitchen paper

STEP 3: Cook the Quinoa. Put 1/2 cup of quinoa with 1.5 cups of water in a pan (ratio of 1:3). Cover it till it boils then reduce the heat to a simmer. Move it around with a spatula every few minutes. It will be thoroughly cooked in 10-15 minutes (when all the water is gone). Let it cool.

STEP 4: Heat 2 Tablespoons of canola oil in a large pan. Pour in the minced meat and break it up as it cooks. Remove from the heat when all the chicken is cooked (approx. 5 mins) and put it in a coriander to drain the fat. Return to the pan. When the chicken is cool enough, further break the chicken into minced pieces.

STEP 5: Add the red peppers, yellow peppers, shredded carrots, enoki mushrooms, & green onions to the chicken. Pour in the ginger, sesame oil, soy sauce, water and hoisin sauce and cook for a few minutes. Your mix is ready when the peppers are soft. (This smells DIVINE btw!) When the mix is well cooked, cover with a lid to keep warm.

STEP 6: Make the sauce. Mix all the ingredients mentioned above. It is quite strong so only use a little for each wrap.

STEP 7: Assemble the wraps. Fill each lettuce leaf with 1  tablespoon of Quinoa, 2.5 tablespoons of the chicken mix and 1 Tablespoon of the sauce.

*Tip: My lettuce leaves were too big and collapsed with the weight of the mix. If they collapse, use a toothpick to keep them contained. Buy smaller iceberg lettuce or even better, lettuce cups if you find them at the supermarket.

*Optional: Add shredded almonds or peanuts to each wrap for additional crunch.

Bon Appetit! These chicken lettuce wraps are truly DELICIOUS!

EXCLUSIVE Summer Interview: Melina Mitri of S*uce

For this week's Exclusive Summer Interview, I sat down with Melina Mitri. She works in PR and Markwting for the fabulous S*uce Boutiques in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. We discussed travelling to France and Copenhagen, and savouring every moment of your holiday. Enjoy! :)

Where will you be travelling this summer?
France and Copenhagen for 3 weddings.

How long will you be staying?
About 2 weeks.

Any plans while there?
I am RIDICULOUSLY excited about the first wedding which will be at a chateau in the Dordogne area in France. It is simply the most gorgeous landscape ever - endless fields of green, green grass, the brightest sunflowers, and the occasional cow. My plans are to soak up all the vibrant colours, nature, and the gorgeousness and imprint the image in my brain for LONG after I've left!

The Dordogne Valley
(www.trekearth.com)

What will you be shopping for on your destination?
I will be checking out the concept stores in Copenhagen, which I hear is a super cool city.

Copenhagen
(www.cnntraveller.com)

Do you usually pack heavy or light?
I usually pack about 5 kgs below whatever the limit is - to leave room for shopping :)

What will you pack in your suitcase?
Lots of shorts, little light dresses, and my Bensimon espadrilles from S*uce (They are SO comfy!) My luggage are super cool cases that I bought from Tokyo.

My very fun and colourful luggage from Tokyo

What are your summer beauty essentials?

Clockwise from Top Left:
(I chanced upon this eyeliner and BELIEVE me, it's the best I've ever tried!)

What will you be reading this summer?
Summer Reading and the perfect Beach Bag (S*uce's shopping bag):

What will you put in your carryon for the flight?
Mini Dettol hand sanitizer, Mini Hello Kitty tissue, IPHONE with my pre-prepared summer playlist ("Breach- Jack", lots of Daftpunk, Justice, and songs from the ZAYAN AW13 Playlist - available to download HERE), & a little notebook for random thoughts and notes.

Any Travel Tips?
Make sure you have two pairs of super comfy, super broken-in shoes. Don't forget to savour every moment, every sight and every sound!

Exclusive Summer Interview: Dr. Lamees Hamdan of Shiffa Skin Care

For this week's Exclusive Summer Interview, I sat down with Dr. Lamees Hamdan. She is the founder and creator of SHIFFA Skincare in Dubai, a company that sells award winning beauty products, and a mother of four young children. This summer, she will be travelling to four countries in four weeks. Read about her fabulous tips to packing light, the amazing SHIFFA products that she will be taking along, and great recommendations of things to do in Paris!

Where will you be travelling this summer?
Bodrum to spend Eid with my parents, our farm in France with my in laws, then Paris, then Forte Dei Marmi for a friend's wedding, Lake district in the U.K. and finally London for a friend's birthday party! It was supposed to be a boring summer - funny how things suddenly change!!

How long will you be staying?
4 weeks.

Any plans while there?
In Paris I go to a great Italian restaurant called Cibus on Rue Moliere, L'atelier de Joel Robuchon and  Jean Paul Hevin for chocolates. I love going to the marches for fresh food and flea markets. I will be visiting museums and my favourite, Institute de Monde Arabe. I will also be signing up for a walking tour of the 16eme Arrondissement for its Art Deco Buildings.

Clockwise from top left:

What will you be shopping for on your vacation?
I will not be doing any serious shopping - I don't like to shop when I am with my kids. I would rather be at a park, a museum, or EuroDisney. I have actually become an online shopper. With so little time, I don't have time to shop around! I love anything that can be customized or monogramed - they make great gifts :)

All of my family members have customized passport holders by Smythson
(These are ABSOLUTELY Fabulous!)

Who will you be travelling with?
Summer is all about family.

What will you pack in your suitcase?
I usually pack very, very light! It's challenging because on this trip I will be on a farm, in a major stylish city with sightseeing and fancy dinners at night, and at a wedding! I will only take 2 bags: one for day and a clutch for evenings and a cashmere lined rain jacket from Loro Piana.

Shoes:
I will be packing a pair of nude heels by Michel Perry
Chanel jelly slippers

I always pack everything into Victorinox rolled duffle bags (Link)
Never black or red as they are too common

Summer Dresses:
I love Bottega Venetta for dinners
Marni works for both daytime and evenings out with heels

What are your summer beauty essentials?
In the summer you need great skin, because makeup is so minimal. I use a Shiffa cleanser, moisturizer, and body lotion and sheer lipstick by Bobbi Brown.

What do you usually put in your carryon?
My shawl, Vitamin C effervescent tablets, and air popped popcorn to munch on during movies. I always hydrate with chamomile tea, roobois tea, and water during and after my flight.

I use Shiffa Healing Balm (Link) on the flight on my hands, face, under my eyes, and on my lips.
It hydrates, removes puffiness, makes my skin glow, and smells divine!
I always carry a small vial of Aya perfume

Any travel tips?
Travel light and enjoy life :)
