Last night I attended an event presenting Matthew Williamson for the Rug Company. It was held at The Farm, Al Barari, in Dubai. The event was organized by Expose Communications and was attended by only the Fashion Elite of Dubai (and a handful of Abu Dhabians!).
The location itself was stunning- first we were driving on a highway in the middle of the desert and then we arrived to an area filled with trees and lakes and beautifully paved roads. In the middle of all this is a restaurant, The Farm, that was converted to a cocktail reception area for the night which resembles a glass box surrounded by a wooden deck and lots of trees. Who knew such a place existed on the desert highway that is Emirates Road?!
Matthew Williamson himself was at the event and took a picture with me :)

The entrance -
I fell in LOVE with the hologram on the floor which looks like a Matthew Williamson rug (it's just light!!)
The main attraction of the event was this beautiful Wall Hanging called "The Chandelier". It was designed by a Jordanian artist, Abeer Seikaly (she is in the above picture) and was inspired by a rug her grandma had. It is hand woven and represents a blue eyed woman veiled by the chandelier. The first edition shown above was signed by the artist and took 700 hours to make! It sold at auction at the event for AED 90,000. All proceeds will go to the Dubai Autism Centre.
Leaving the event with my goody bag
The goody bag was a canvas bag filled with a blue Rug Company notebook and postcards of rugs made by famous artists
