Get the Look for MUCH Less!

Duffle Bags are a very popular bag trend for Fall/Winter 2013. Saint Laurent, Marc Jacobs, Victoria Beckham, Furla, and Louis Vuitton have all sent models down their runways carrying duffles.

I found this amazing duffle at ZARA at a fraction of the cost and is a great alternative to the expensive brands. It is available in a stunning blue, black or beige/black combo, and will make a great day bag this summer and fall :)

There is a new bag on my radar! It's the perfect size, perfect length, comes in really cool colours, and is a great contender for a summer day bag. It also doesn't help that the fabulous super model Alessandra Ambrosia is carrying it for her daily errands! Check out the new Michel Kors Selma Messenger in Medium. I'm TOTALLY OBSESSED!! :)

Perfume Bottle Clutches

(Source: Disneyrollergirl.net)

I have recently become quite obsessed with Perfume Bottle Clutches. Charlotte Olympia headed the trend this season and took inspiration from perfume bottles in the 1920s. She then added her fun spin and made them out of transparent plastic.  They are completely impractical, don't fit ANYTHING other than a stick of lipstick at most, but look fantastic with outfits! If you are worried about where to fit your phone, cover it in a catchy case and it will be another accessory added into the mix. Since when was Fashion meant to be practical???

The Perfume Bottle Clutches are mostly see-through and made of perspex so consider them arm candy, rather than handbags. I think they would look AMAZING with evening wear, or even perched on your dressing table with the rest of your perfumes.
Whatever you decide to do with yours, you can't deny that they are simply FABULOUS....

A FEW OF MY FAVOURITES

This clutch is pure luxury!
It is modelled after Lanvin's Arpege perfume bottle and is lined with velvet

Will you be carrying a perfume bottle clutch this season??

Cross Body Bags

(Source: www.purseblog.com)

With the COACHELLA MUSIC FESTIVAL in Palm Springs in full swing, I got inspired by all of the celebrities who were carrying cross-body bags. The beauty of these bags is that they are small enough to hold your necessities and comfortable enough to be carried for long periods of time. Last summer, I bought a small Chanel cross body bag and carried it every single day and night while in Mykonos.

They are perfect for the summer when you are running around and can't be bothered to lug around a huge tote or shoulder bag. At beach destinations, I simply put my cross-body bag in my beach bag and just take it out when I'm going for lunch or shopping. It is also my go-to bag for concerts as it is light and very convenient.

Tips:
1) Make sure your cross body bag isn't too big or it will hit your hip when you walk
2) Get one big enough to at least fit your phone.
The last thing you want is to carry your phone in your hand all day long!
3) It won'f fit a wallet so only put your credit cards, ID, and some cash in the inside pocket or in a cute credit card holder

Here are a few of my favourite cross-body bags for Summer 2013

This bag is absolutely ADORABLE and comes in green and black

This is the PERFECT summer bag!

Which of these bags is your favourite?

Up Close & Personal: Sarah Beydoun of Sarah's Bag

I love fashion but also feel very strongly about helping the poor and underprivileged and being charitable to them. Sarah Beydoun, founder of Sarah's Bag, has found a way to combine  these two opposing loves to create a brand of stunning handbags and accessories, while at the same time benefitting the underprivileged. Her items are made by artisans who  happen to be prisoners and ex-prisoners from Lebanese jails.

Sarah & I at her stand at Beirut Art Beat
Sarah's Bag is now a very well established brand in the Middle East with beautiful bags which are each a piece of art. Even better, you can feel good about carrying them! I met up with Sarah at Beirut Art Beat and asked her a few questions about her brand.
Here is my interview with a truly inspiring designer:

Tell me about Sarah's Bag?
I am the Creative Director and Founder of Sarah’s Bag. After studying sociology at the American University of Beirut, I got master's degree from the Université Saint Joseph where I wrote my thesis on prostitution in Lebanon. I launched Sarah’s Bag soon after graduation and my first collection was a set of 12 handbags made by prisoners in Baabda prison that I sold at a craft fair in downtown Beirut.

I then opened my atelier in Beirut in 2000. It brought together my love of design and fashion with my desire to work with underprivileged women. Today over 150 artisans form the backbone of Sarah's Bag.  We focused on bringing Middle Eastern pop culture into the mainstream, and on reviving and reinventing the region's rich traditions of craftsmanship, embroidery, crocheting and textile making.

Tell me about the women and prisoners who work for Sarah's  Bag?
Our bags and accessories are designed around the skills of the prisoners and ex- prisoners that we have personally trained and worked with for the past thirteen years. The designs incorporate techniques we’ve taught them and we are always to looking to expand their repertoire. A lot of the women we work with were prisoners when they started with us, and many continued to work with us after they served their sentences.

Each one of them has a different story to tell, but they all had to overcome very difficult circumstances, both inside and outside prison. A lot of them had to rebuild their lives and reintegrate into their communities while facing the stigma of being ex-prisoners. I am especially proud of some of our artisans who trained women and girls
from their villages and became heads of small Sarah’s Bag teams.

How has your brand evolved over time?
We started in the Middle East and built up a strong clientele in Lebanon and the rest of the Arab world. Arab women love buying handbags that are stylish, culturally relevant to them, while at the same time benefitting underprivileged women in their society. We then started to expand and sell internationally.

Do your bags change each season or do they carry over?
We have signature pieces that are inspired by Lebanese pop culture and textile traditions, the golden age of Egyptian cinema, and Arabic poetry. These are our classics, but the bulk of the bags do change each season. We choose a theme based on textile traditions of other cultures like Africa and Central Asia and base a whole collection on it.

(A typical Sarah's Bag inspired by Egyptian Cinema)

Which is your favourite bag from this season?
Whatever I am working on right now is the piece I love. Right now the focus of my obsession is on our latest bag collection, Summer Blues, which is beaded and very brightly colored: colors that make me happy and make me think of summer such as turquoise, cobalt blue, coral, sunshine yellow.

I have a soft spot in my heart for the first ever Sarah’s Bag: it’s small and has a pink rose sequined onto a black background. I had it framed and it hangs in my office.

1st ever Sarah's Bag made for Sarah's mom

Have you expanded your product offering?
Yes, we also sell accessories, headpieces,  scarves, kaftans, IPAD covers, laptop bags and home accessories. (All of these items can be found on Sarahsbag.com)

Where in the U.A.E can my readers buy your bags? Online?
You can find Sarah’s Bag at O’de Rose on Al Wasl Road, Boom and Mellow in Mall of The Emirates and Sauce Boutique at Dubai Mall. Online, at our eshop shop.sarahsbag.com

To read stories of some of the prisoners who work for Sarah's Bag, go to www.sarahsbag.com and click 'Our Artisans' at the bottom. The stories are truly inspiring. They make me in awe of Sarah Beydoun for helping these women find their way back into the world while at the same time, creating a fashion brand that rocks!

CELINE Bags for Spring/Summer 2013

Celine Bags are sold out around the world and have been spotted on the arms and shoulders of almost every influential fashion editor, celebrity, or fashionista. For Spring/Summer 2013, the bags are in pastel shades like pale yellow, grey, light blue, or beige and are mixed with red and black. They are structured and come in animal leathers, suedes and calfskin - I'm OBSESSED with the collection!

Below, I have compiled a list of all the coolest Celine IT bags this season along with newer shapes introduced by the fashion house. Hope you find it a useful guide to choosing the Perfect Celine tote for Summer :)
(All of the pics are of bags from the Spring/Summer collections)

TRAPEZE
The first two bags are from the Summer collection, the third is from the Spring

The Celine Trapeze is sold out everywhere iand is usually snapped up by pre-order (fashionistas who order from pictures before the bags arrive to the shop floor). It is available in two sizes: small and medium, and can be carried on your arm or on your shoulder with its adjustable long strap. I personally prefer the smaller one as it is easier to carry. For this season, the Trapeze was available in tri-color - three different colours for the flap, the body and the wings.

The Trapeze can be carried on your shoulder via a long strap or on your arm

LUGGAGE
(Source: Celine.com)

The Celine Luggage has been around for many seasons now and is a fashion favourite. It is available in 4 sizes: Nano (smallest), Micro, Mini, and Shoulder (biggest)

A Nano Luggage (these are adorable) and a Mini Luggage

CLASSIC BOX

The Classic Box was released in 2011 and is simple, clean, unfussy and fabulous! It has a gold buckle in front and is available in three sizes: small, medium and large.

The Classic box can be carried on your shoulder or as a clutch

ALL SOFT SHOULDER BAG
(Source: Celine.com)

If you are not so much into IT bags and prefer stylish functional bags, then the All Soft Shoulder Bag is for you. This bag shape is brand new for Spring and is easier to find than the Trapeze or the Luggage. It is very slouchy, soft and extremely versatile- it will go with all your outfits.

LUGGAGE PHANTOM

The Luggage Phantom is your typical Celine Bag. It is has bigger 'wings' and expands more than the Luggage Totes. When you zip it up, the shape goes back to the regular Luggage style.
