TOPSHOP's Daisy Cut-Out Dress

Remember how earlier this summer, all the celebrities were loving Zara's Skort? (Click here for a re-cap). Well, now they are all wearing TOPSHOP's daisy dress. It is cut out along the waist and is covered in black and white summery daisies. It's adorable and very wearable... I LOVE it! I especially love that the celebrities are coveting clothes that we can all wear :)

EXCLUSIVE Summer Interview: Celebrity HairStylist Jen Atkin

It's no secret that celebrities look better than the rest of us and spend a big portion of their time travelling. Ever wonder how they stay looking so amazing? Who better than to ask their team of beauty stylists how to look fabulous while travelling? They are constantly jetting from one celebrity, photo shoot, and job to the next and have all the answers! :)

This week's Exclusive Summer Interview is with celebrity Hairstylist Jen Atkin who works for the Wall Group in LA and NYC (Link). She is responsible for the amazing hairstyles of the who's who in Hollywood for every single awards show and event. She counts Sophia Vergara, the Kardashians, and Jessica Alba as not only her clients, but close friends. We discussed her travel beauty essentials and how she arrives to her destinations looking fresh and rested!

Where will you be travelling this summer?
Bali at the end of Summer. My boyfriend Mike Rosenthal is a photographer and will be working on Top Model Asia. I want to go visit :)

How long will you be staying?
One week

Any Plans while there?
Lots of sleeping, working out (I'm an LA girl), Reading Grace Coddington's book (Creative Director of American Vogue), Mindy Kaling's book, and cleansing. I don't like to eat alot on vacation because it helps with the jetlag.

What will you shop for?
Only flip flips and hats! I usually shop in LA, NYC, or Miami while I'm there for work. I need a vacation from shopping!!

Who will you be travelling with? Friends or family?
Just me and my man :)

Do you usually pack heavy or light?
We went to Croatia, Greece, and Italy last summer and I packed so light you wouldn't believe it! I never travel without my Rimowa Suitcases.

What will you pack in your suitcase?
Lots of Bikinis! Believe it or not, but I actually like to wear a lot of my clients' lines. Charlotte Ronson, Sofia Vergara for KMART workout gear, Kardashian Kollection dresses, shoes and accessories by Rachel Zoe, and ALC EVERYTHING!

What are your beauty essentials?

What will you pack in your carryon on the flight?
I have a whole flight beauty regime as I fly so often. I start with my By Terry Rose Baume to nourish and regenerate my lips, then an SK-II Face mask to keep me hydrated, my Sephora Cuticle Pen to hydrate my nails, and eye mask. Before I land, I use a SkinCeutical B5 Complex all over my face to give me a glow.

Clockwise from Top Left:

Any Travel Tips?
If you can help it, don't eat on the plane. Plane food is so full of sodium that it makes you bloated. Bring your own food, like a packet of oatmeal if possible. I swear by Donoryml sleeping pills which I buy in Paris pharmacies. They help me sleep every flight and get on the time zone of wherever I have landed. A workout always helps me to fight jet lag.

The TOP 5 Super Fruits in Summer

Fruits usually get a bad rep because of their high sugar content but they are actually VERY GOOD for you if eaten in moderation. Most fruits can be found all year round, but they have the highest nutritional value in the season they are naturally grown in. They also taste so much better! Summer fruits are healthy, loaded with antioxidants, fiber, and vitamins, and help strengthen your immune system. They have a high water content to keep your body cool and make delicious snacks.

Here are 5 of the Most Nutritious summer fruits:

WATERMELON

Watermelon contains high levels of lycopene, which is important for cardiovascular and bone health. It also has anti-inflammatory properties and antioxidant health benefits. It has an extremely high water content (approx. 92%) and will help hydrate you in the hot summer months. To get the most health benefits out of this fruit, it needs to be ripe.

How to Buy & Store Watermelons: It should be very heavy for it's size. If you hit the watermelon, it is ripe if you hear a hollow dull sound rather than a  solid and sharp sound. Store it covered with cling wrap in the fridge.

I love drinking fresh watermelon juice on the beach, or sliced with halloumi or feta cheese.

PEACH & NECTARINE

Peaches, nectarines, and plums are called Stone Fruits and are ripest in the summer. They contain anti-obesity, anti-inflammatory, and anti-diabetic properties, as well as reduce bad cholesterol LDL. One peach/nectarine only contains about 70 calories and is a very good snack choice.

How to Buy & Store peaches: Ripe peaches should give a little when ripe and are not super hard to touch. If not ripe, store them outside of the fridge at room temperature for a few days until they get a little softer. Once ripe, store them in the fridge and eat them within a week.

My favourite way to eat peaches/nectarines is simply by bitting into one, or baked in the oven.

STRAWBERRIES

Strawberries contain very high sources of Vitamin C, a powerful anti-oxidant that prevents colds and provides natural sun protection. They are also high in fiber, and vitamins A and E. They have the 4th highest level of anti-oxidants of all fruits (others being blackberries, cranberries, and raspberries). Most importantly, one cup of fresh strawberries (approx. 8 large strawberries) can help regulate blood sugar levels and are ideal for people with Type 2 Diabetes.

How to Buy & Store strawberries: Strawberries are usually sold in little crates by the pint. Make sure all of the strawberries inside are firm and have no mould. Discard any mouldy ones because it spreads quickly to all the others. Store them in the fridge and only rinse them in cold water right before you eat them.

I love eating strawberries either plain, lightly covered with icing sugar, or dipped in low-fat whipped cream

BLUEBERRIES

Blueberries have the HIGHEST level of anti-oxidants of any other fruit or vegetable. Similar to strawberries, they also help regulate blood sugar levels and improve memory.

Blueberries are best eaten raw or frozen for the best flavour and the most nutritional value.  (Buy them in the summer and freeze them all year round).

How to Buy & Store Blueberries: Make sure there are no mouldy blueberries in the pack. They should be firm to touch. Store them in the fridge.

FIGS

Figs can be found year-round in their dried form but fresh figs are only available in the summer months. They are a very good source of Potassium which helps maintain blood pressure. They are also very high in fibre and contain iron, calcium, and Vitamin A. The only problem with figs is that they are very high in sugar.

How to Buy & Store Figs: They are very perishable so only buy them a few days before you intend to eat them. Look for figs with a rich, deep colour that are plump and tender but not mushy. Store them in a covered paper-lined plate or a shallow container.

I aM by jeweller Ileana Makri

Ever since I discovered jewellery designer ILEANA MAKRI (Link) in a store in Mykonos a few summers ago, I have been obsessed with her. Her fine jewellery line comprises of delicate gold chains with creatures like snakes, beetles, hands of fatima that  are encrusted with tiny diamonds, rubies, and emeralds. She also makes larger stunning pieces like earrings and rings. Most of her delicate jewellery can be worn everyday and always catch lots of attention. I bought a snake necklace and still love it. The only problem? Her items tend to be quite expensive and have gotten so much more so over the years!

I was thrilled when she recently launched a contemporary line called I aM. It contains items that are below $1000 and are made with the same fine craftsmanship and attention to detail as her regular line. The only difference is that the pieces are gold-plated sterling silver, titanium, and bronze. Everything is still stunning, is a statement piece, and would make a perfect EID gift!

Here are a few of my favourites from the collection:

You can still own a piece of her signature collection with this great alternative.
Made of rose gold plated silver, this ring has ruby encrusted eyes

These SCREAM attention!

Ramadan Kaftans by Tamara Al Gabbani

RAMADAN KAREEM everyone! I hope your Ramadan this year is filled with lots of family gatherings, plenty of love, and great outfits :)

I recently discovered Dubai-based Tamara Al Gabbani. She is a TV presenter, an Emirates Woman of the Year Nominee, a Pepsi Arabia Influencer, and the designer behind her own brand. The Tamara Al Gabbani brand (Link) comprises beautiful goddess inspired evening gowns, jalabiyas, and abayas. Her collection is so stunning that she wore one of her designs to the Cannes Film Festival and got awarded Best Dressed at Cannes Film Festival. Isn't that something?!

For her collection ArabiAna Collection 2013, she took inspiration from Islamic Art and combined it with Modern Patterns. The end result is a beautiful modern take on the traditional jalabiya. I find these flowing Kaftans and Jalabiyas to be PERFECT for Ramadan Iftars and Suhoors. They are so comfortable and super stylish at the same time!

Each of these jalabiyas/kaftans costs AED 1900 and can be ordered directly from info@tamaraalgabbani.com

I wish you all a very stylish Ramadan! :)
